Winter boots GRIZZLY GTX black

GRIZZLY GTX is made for conditions where a standard high boot and a thicker sock are no longer enough. It was designed from the start as an Extreme Cold Weather Boot – footwear for long periods in freezing temperatures, snow and wet winter environments.

The most important part of its thermal protection is hidden inside. GORE-TEX THERMIUM™ uses silica aerogel, an exceptionally lightweight material with very low thermal conductivity. Aerogel insulation has also been used in NASA space applications, where high insulation performance at minimum weight is critical. In GRIZZLY GTX, the same principle makes it possible to create an effective thermal barrier in a layer only about 1.7 mm thick. The insulation resists compression and retains strong insulating performance even in damp conditions.

That matters during long-term use. Thermal protection does not depend only on a large volume of soft padding that makes a boot bulky. THERMIUM™ helps retain heat with much less material.

Water protection is handled by a multi-layer GORE-TEX construction. Its job is to keep liquid water from reaching the foot while allowing water vapour generated during movement to escape. Underfoot there is also a removable 100% wool thermal footbed, adding another insulating layer between the foot and frozen ground.

The THWAITO outsole is equally important. In severe cold, ordinary rubber compounds can harden and change how they behave. THWAITO is therefore designed for winter use so that it keeps the flexibility and grip needed at very low temperatures. The construction also allows crampons to be attached for movement on snow and icy ground.

The high upper is made from hydrophobic smooth cowhide, helping reduce water absorption while protecting the ankle and lower leg. The boot is 19.5 cm high and weighs approximately 850 g per boot in size 42.

GRIZZLY GTX is intended for winter duty, long hours of outdoor work, hunting, mountain use and other situations where a person spends several hours in freezing temperatures and warmth is no longer just a matter of comfort.

The model is designed for extreme cold conditions down to around −50 °C.
